| Description | Series of files probably kept by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, initially Charles Smalley Baker, and later Owen Hood Phillips and Lionel Neville Brown for individual students, containing application forms, correspondence between students and University staff and some carbon copy replies, testimonials for students seeking employment after qualification, and some news cuttings and other items relating to students' later lives and careers. Some application forms include passport style head and shoulders photographs of students.
The files include letters written to former students on active service during the Second World War and evidence of attempts to trace former students who were living in Nazi occupied countries during the War. Some of the files are for students who had to take a break in their studies to complete their National Service in the 1950s.
Nearly all the files are for students taking the LLB degree. There are also a small number of files for students taking the postgraduate LLM degree in the 1960s and students on short courses.
There are files for students admitted to the Faculty of Law from 1937 to 1968. Some files contain copies of testimonial letters written by staff in the Faculty of Law for graduates applying for posts or correspondence from former students who kept in touch with staff in the Faculty of Law. Many of these are dated several years after the students qualified.
