DescriptionLetters sent to Edward Arber, with some copies of outgoing correspondence. Many letters concern subscriptions to Arber's publications or copies sent as gifts; other letters relate to requests to access rare publications, and plans for printing and publishing. There are letters relating to Arber's Professorship at Mason College, his resignation in 1894, and subsequent enquiries about the Chair of English Language and Literature at University of Birmingham in 1904. There are letters relating to his work as a lecturer and examiner, his appointment as Honorary Fellow at King's College in 1880 (US4/1/66), and his application to the University of Otago in 1880 (US4/1/77, US4/1/135-136). There are also letters about receiving his DLitt from Oxford University in 1905. The majority of the letters relate to Arber's work and career but there are a small number of family letters, for example US4/1/6 (to his son E. A. Newell Arber), US4/1/7 (to his wife, Marion), and US4/1/8 (from Thomas N. Arber).
