Administrative History | Otto Egon Lowenstein, (1906-1999) was Mason Professor of Zoology and Comparative Physiology at the University of Birmingham, 1952-1974. Before this appointment he had been a Research Scholar at the University of Birmingham, 1933-1937, an Assistant Lecturer at University College, Exeter, 1937-38 and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, 1938-52. He was President of the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour, 1961-1964 and a Member of the Council of the Royal Society, 1968-69. His publications included a revision of 6th edition of 'A Text-book of Zoology' Vol. I (by Parker and Haswell), 1940; and 'The Senses', 1966; and papers in various learned journals on electrophysiology and ultrastructure of sense organs, especially the inner ear of vertebrates
