Description
Letter dated May 1 1916 from the General Head Quarters of the Imperial Army. Dolgorukov reports of the unsuccessful operation at Lake Narych on April 15th which resulted in heavy losses of men. He claims that the Russians are superior to the enemy in terms of troops but inferior in the number of guns at their disposal, General Alexeyev believes that the Germans don't know how to get out of their awkward position at Verdun. The ladies of the Imperial family are expected at the head quarters on May 5th in preparation for the celebrations to be held for the Tsar's birthday the following day. Dolgorukov adds that Veselkin has recently arrived from Romania stating that there is a calm there, but he believes the Romanians will attack the Russians as they are bargaining hard with the Germans.
