TitleLetter from Prince Dolgorukov to Count Benckendorff
Extent1 item
Date1916
DescriptionLetter dated November 15 1916 written from the General Headquarters. Dolgorukov discusses the report received by the Tsar from the Romanian General Coanda who says that the Germans have crossed the Danube at Zimnitsa and are advancing on Bucharest which will be taken if the Russian troops do not help. This would mean collapse for Romania as all arsenals, factories and stores are in the city. The Romanian front is now the dominant problem in addition to the lack of organisation of supplies. Germany has declared itself a 'state of siege' meaning universal military service and civilian mobilisation.
