| Description | Contains correspondence, papers, and reports concerning property owned and leased by YHA used as hostels, staff accommodation, offices, and shops. This includes architectural plans and drawings showing alterations and works to the buildings, and legal documents concerning the ownership and occupancy of the property. Also includes some papers relating to proposed hostels which were never opened.
The papers show the breadth of building types used by the YHA, as well as the equipment needed to establish a hostel, and changes to standards and requirements over time.
Also includes some hostel inspection reports for the Northern England Region, and for London City Hostels.
The majority of the hostel property files (YHA/PR/1) relate to hostels which were closed in the 1990s and 2000s as part of YHA's network reorganisation programme, with the property subsequently sold or the leases given up.
