Activity | Massignon was an eminent French Orientalist who contributed greatly to the field of Islamic studies. He completed university studies in Paris and was a member of the Institut Francais, d'archeologie Orientale au Caire. He held various academic offices including professor at the University of Cairo, professor and Chair de Sociologie et Sociographie de l'Islam at the College of France, and President of the Institute of Iranian Studies. He completed a biography on the Sufi martyr al-Hallaj for his doctoral dissertation and published extensively throughout his career. He married Marcelle Dansaert in 1914. |
